when zhao kai called me to check the movie listings on the web, i came across the section on "upcoming movies". and apparently, there is a movie coming up soon on 23rd feb about john newton. i really feel that it is a must-see movie! i have read the book and i'm so touched by it.
and then, i realise that last sunday is actually the 200th anniversary for the freedom of slaves by john newton. more than 100 churches sang the song together, which is one of the dreams i hope that i will take part in. oh well... some other day... =P
the song "amazing grace" (obviously) is found in the trailer of the movie. and it's sung by chris tomlin, a Christian singer whom i so adore. anyways, he re-sung the song and it is so beautiful. today, i found the song, and i memorized the lyrics to it. very very meaningful.
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
by Chris Tomlin
Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

read the lyrics slowly and meditate upon each line if you are willing to do so. because every line means so much more than the words themselves. as the titles say, the words are "amazing grace" - a gift from God. =)
